Biography
Natural Medicine has been a passion of mine from early on. I was born with health complications. The first 5 years of my life were spent in & out of hospitals. Much of my time was spent in the presence of nurses and doctors. Consequently, I knew I wanted to help others at an early age. At age 15, I trained and certified as a Nurses Assistant. Turning 16 allowed me a position at the local hospital/nursing home. It wasn't long until the medical paradigm did not fully resonate with me. My mother taught me that there were other ways to help people with their health and introduced me to Natural Medicine. She impressed me with her knowledge of uses for herbs and enticed me to learn more.
We attended classes together and soon trained in Iridology and Therapeutic Nutrition. After high school I trained and certified as a Reiki Master and received deeper insight about energy and directing it towards specific goals. Three months later, I was accepted at Utah College of Massage Therapy. I was trained in a variety of modalities of bodywork and energy medicine, resulting in National Licensing as a Massage Therapist. This new profession allowed me to have a hands on approach and relationship with my clients, which was what I was looking to achieve. Since then I have had the opportunity to help patients gain health by working in chiropractic offices, natural medical clinics, and health spas.
Recognizing I needed to become well rounded in Natural Medicine in order to help others more efficiently, I continued my education. I attended and completed training in Acupuncture, Research Microscopy, Therapeutic Nutrition, Hypnotherapy, and a degree in Natural Medicine from St. Lukes School of Medicine. My clinical internship was spent with Dr. Harold Klassen, N.M.D., a highly reputable Natural Medical Doctor in Idaho. My clinical internship was accomplished at the Bio-Mechanics Clinic under his supervision. I worked as the second doctor in the clinic, which offered me valuable hands on experience. My personal responsibilities as an intern included: Patient Care & Supervision, Hypnosis for Health, Microscopy, Oral and Intravenous Nutrition, Oxygen Therapies, Acupuncture, Bodywork, Energy Medicine, Bach Flower Remedies, and Homeopathy. Our time was dedicated to helping patients with a variety of chronic and acute diseases and disorders by educating them about their individual health and its needs. We created and guided them through a regiment of natural therapies and regimens to regain and maintain their health.
In January 2004, I married my long-time sweetheart Nicholas Holmes and moved away from the clinic in Idaho to San Luis Obispo, California where he was attending Cal Poly to pursue his passion in Architecture. During our time in San Luis Obispo, I worked at Sycamore Mineral Springs in Avila Beach, California as a massage therapist.
Nicholas and I moved abroad to Denmark for one year, while he attended Architecture school in Copenhagen. We made our new home in a small town called Helsingør. It was in Helsingør that I taught seminars on Self-Hypnosis at a local health food store. One of my students was a Psychiatrist who invited me to work together with her in her practice in Copenhagen. Consequently I spent my time with the Danish people, dedicated to helping families, teens and children, through teaching Self-Hypnosis. I had the opportunity to encourage, motivate, and create new hope for those individuals.
My husband and I returned to San Luis Obispo for his final year in Architecture School at Cal Poly. I returned to Sycamore Mineral Springs where I introduced Hypnotherapy as being a supportive modality to offer their guests. With Sycamore's support I worked as the first Hypnotherapist there.
One year later my husband received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree, and together we moved from our home and work, to travel and explore the Northwestern States and Canada. Following our travels, we landed in Joshua Tree, California where Nicholas actively works as an Ecological Designer/ Builder. I have created Holmes Health a private clinic where I educate and support individuals towards their path to better health. I have offices located in Joshua Tree, California, Desert Hot Springs, California and Costa Mesa, California.
Nicholas and I are currently developing The Nourishing Tree. And we have teamed with Homes that Change Lives, a fully approved 501c3 Not-for-Profit Organization. This will be a mixed-used, health-oriented center in downtown Joshua Tree, California. It will be a community-based center offering education and support for healthy lifestyle. The Nourishing Tree and Holmes Health are located near the corner of Hwy 62 and Sunburst.
We are all on the earth together to support and help one another. Each of us with our own talents, capabilities, and resources can become more effective with who we are by working together. We invite you to support our community by donating your time, talents, and resources to bring our project into full fruition. We will be happy to give tax exemptions for any donations given to The Nourishing Tree.
